Abstract: This paper presents several models of the motion and the communication behavior of mobile Internet nodes. Threshold Based Registration (TBR) is a mechanism for minimization of the signaling load between a mobile node and its home agent, its previous and current care-of address and eventually its correspondent node. It is based on the mobility support of the Internet Protocol ver. 6. We evaluate signaling load of TBR algorithm with an analytic approach. Our analysis suggests a performance advantage for TBR over its counterpart in standard IPv6. The main aspects of the motion and communication behavior of the mobile node are parameterized so that applicability and limitations of the TBR mechanism could be evaluated. The analysis is based on Markov chains models. The results might be applied for a version of TBR algorithm having a static or dynamic adaptation capability.
